Tax Data: Tax Policies Improved People's Livelihoods

Preferential tax policies benefiting people's livelihoods in a range from elderly care to healthcare, education, and employment recorded a year-on-year increase of 11.8% in tax reductions and exemptions in the first half of the year, according to tax data released at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on tax reform and development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) on the morning of July 28.

Number of individual income tax filers grew by 3.5% year-on-year in reporting wage and salary income, including a 4.5% increase in private enterprises. A total of 126 million individuals benefited from special additional deductions for individual income tax, covering expenses related to elderly care, healthcare, and education, 5.9% more than the previous year. The total tax reduction from these deductions exceeded RMB 320 billion, up 8.2% year-on-year.

In addition, tax authorities have been actively piloting occupational injury protection for workers in new forms of employment in coordination with authorities of human resources and social security. As of July 1, the pilot program has been expanded to cumulatively 29.1 million people nationwide.
